Can A Bone Marrow Transplant Stops HIV?
There could be a glimmer of hope for the HIV positive out there!
Dr. Gero Hütter, a Berlin-based hematologist has reportedly cured a 42-year old American AIDS victim at the Berlin’s Charity Univeristy Hospital by giving him a bone marrow transplant from a donor who is naturally resistant to the virus. In his report, the doctor said that he used the bone marrow with a natural variant of the CCR5 gene, known since the early 1990s to protect about 1% of Europeans from the HIV infections.
Remarkably, Dr. Hütter has found no trace of the virus from the patient whom he has also treated for leukemia for 2 year now even if he has stopped taking his medication for the AIDS after the treatment.
The recent scientific breakthrough caused pessimism as Dr. Hütter’s announcement was barely discussed at a major HIV conference in Glasgow yesterday. Some international experts also agree that the cure maybe just a cause of a lucky singular incident. But as for me, who knows? Dr. Hütter’s recent discovery could cure all the HIV positive in the world after all.

Hello Snow!
Sana tutuo, malay mo nga naman no. Ang laking tulong niya sa mga HIV/AIDS infected. Grabe, daming mag-ce-celebrate. Ang tanong uli, marami ba naman ang “naturally resistant to the virus”? Mahirap makakita ng bone marrow transplant donor e.

I agree ang hirap humanap ng donor pero this is a good news! Atleast meron ng pag-asa ang victims. Kaya guys, Be Safe! lol
