Facebook Wins $873 Lawsuit Against A Canadian Spammer
So thinking of spamming a social networking site? Oh well spammers, think again as Facebook has won a lawsuit against a Canadian spammer named Adam Guerbuez for bombarding Facebook users with millions of messages about sexual products and drugs.
It was reported that the $873 million lawsuit has been awarded because the Montreal-based Guerbuez aggravated statutory damages to Facebook by violating the CAN-SPAM Act which prohibits false or misleading marketing emails. The court decision also included injunctions preventing Guerbez and his friends to access any Facebook data in the future. Complete judgment can be read here.
Though the amount levied against a spammer is the largest judgement ever for an action brought under spamming, Guerbez who has been slapped with the lawsuit damage may not be able to pay for it. But I guess the symbolic victory will give a lesson to those spammers who plan to target the site.

Kaya minomoderate ko lahat ng comments ko. Also installed a custom anti-spam plugin aside from Akismet. Kaya ayan bibihira na akong may spams. Kahit may akismet kasi, pasok pa rin yang spams e. Ang akismet kasi, sinasala lang niya yong spams tapos ilalagay sa spam folder pero di necessarily dine-delete yong spams.
