Today marks the 111st Independence Day of the Philippine Republic! So, cheers to our freedom and have a happy independence party to all my fellow kababayans out there! Yep, celebrate it with pride wherever you are! :)

But wait, please be reminded that as we celebrate another milestone in our history, let us also remember some of our beloved countrymen who unselfishly fought for the Philippine Independence persistently for six times! Yeah, not once, not twice – but six times! Awesome, right? ;)

The first declaration was on April 12, 1895, which was a Good Friday. Andres Bonifacio, the founder of the Katipunan declared the very first Philippine Independence inside a cave called Bernardo Carpio in Montalban, Rizal. From there, Bonifacio also wrote the ‘Viva La Independencia!’ quote on the cave’s wall.

For the second time, Bonifacio along with the Katipuneros declared again the independence on August 23, 1896 when they tore their ‘cedulas’ at Pugad Lawin. The third time was on October 31, 1896. This was headed by General Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite.

Our Independence on June 12 commemorates the fourth declaration. On June 12, 1896 – Aguinaldo declared again our freedom from the Spanish rule. The event also observed the initial introduction of the national anthem written by Julian Felipe while raising the Philippine flag.

A fifth declaration happened during the Japanese Occupation on October 14, 1943 but many were dubious about it as the country then was only liberated.

The sixth declaration has taken place at the Luneta Park on July 4, 1946 and for the next 15 years until the term of President Diosdado Macapagal – the Philippine Independence was observed every July 4.

Then in 1962, from the Proclamation 28 issued by the late President Diosdado P. Macapagal and Congress’ passage of Republic Act 4166, it was decided that the yearly observance of Philippine Independence be moved to June 12 from July 4.

So, guys and gals, next time you think about the Philippine Independence, please do remember how these countrymen shaped our history to ensure that the Philippine freedom will be rightfully celebrated!

Mabuhay ang Republika ng Pilipinas!

This is a nice post Snow. Maraming beses pala nating idi-neklara yung indpendence natin bago pa yung historic declaration na nakapinta sa Limang Pisong Papel.

Let us not forget also our Muslim brothers who kept the independence alive in the South. Also our Aeta brother who kept themselves untouched by colonization for a long time.

Let us also dedicate the Independence Day to the modern heroes who defied the current system of corruption. Bagong Bayani.

I thought we just liked to imitate the Americans for having an independence day also on the 4th of July, may basis naman pala. My bad! Now I am more informed.

    Cool google design.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend Snow!!!
