Where is Malta located?

The Republic of Malta is lying in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea between the south of Sicily and the northern tip of Africa.

The country is located in the heart of the Mediterranean. Malta is a melting pot of civilizations with a history stretching back thousands of years. The small European country has been inhabited since around 5200 BC. In fact, a significant prehistoric civilization existed on the islands prior to the arrival of the Phoenicians who named the main island Malat, meaning safe haven.

The island loyally supported the United Kingdom during World Wars 1 and 2. The country even remained in the Commonwealth when it became independent in 1964. A decade later Malta became a republic.

The island has transformed itself into a freight transshipment point since the mid-80s. Malta became a financial center and a tourist destination. Malta became an EU member in May 2004 and began using the euro as currency in 2008.

    On Religion.

Note: I am just following the guide of my son’s 6th Grade Social Studies subject.

Freedom House and the World Factbook report that 98 percent of the population is Roman Catholic, making the nation one of the most Catholic countries in the world.

    Hi Snow,
Now lang ako naka blog-hop. New look pala dearbloggery! Nice, I like it!

On Malta. I am very lucky to be given a chance to visit Malta several years ago (i’m not into blogging pa that time). I did some presentation for a conference for our company. The sked was hectic but we have some slack time on the last day. We toured the nearby place and it was fun.

Malta is a great place, I haven’t visited the neolithic temple you mentioned above, but we’ve been to their Mosta Dome (2nd or 3rd biggest church dome in Europe) other historical churches and Fort, and one seaside cave. Darbs is right, they are 98%+ Roman Catholic there and you will really see many churches there.

The downside was… wala pa ako camera dati :( poor me. But you’ve given me some great idea. I’ll ask my office-mates if they still have, and may post them in my blog.
