Mayon Volcano on Brink of Eruption
Mayon Volcano: Now on Alert Level 3
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported yesterday in a telephone interview that Mayon Volcano could have a major eruption next week due to increase ash emissions. The Philippines’ Mayon Volcano has blown nearly 40 times in 400 years. The current emissions of ashes now indicates that it will erupt weeks away so nearby resident were forcibly instructed to be evacuated yesterday, December 17 (Thursday).
Alert Level 3 is currently in effect in the areas around the active volcano. It has also been reported that the Philippines’ Social Welfare Department will provide P98 million worth of relief goods to the residents that will be affected by the Mayon Volcano eruption.
