Jennifer Jones

Academy Award Winner Jennifer Jones (born Phyllis Lee Isley) died Thursday (December 17) at her home in Malibu, California of natural causes. She was 90 years old.

The gorgeous raven-haired actress who achieved Hollywood stardom in the postwar years was nominated for Academy Awards five times and won 1 Oscar award for her role of a saintly nun in the “The Song of Bernadette” back in 1943. She also went to star in successful films like “Love Is A Many Splendored Thing” and “Duel in the Sun.” Her final screen appearance was in the big-budget movie “The Towering Inferno” in 1974.

Jones first wed to actor Robert Walker which ended in divorce in June 1945. Then, she married motion picture producer David O. Selznick right after her separation from Walker in July 1949. The marriage lasted until Selznick’s death in 1965. She was married again in 1971 to millionaire industrialist Norton Simon. After Simon’s death in 1993, Jones became a Trustee Emeritus of the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California.

Jones enjoyed a quiet retirement in Southern California close to her son and aloof in the public eye. She also avoided the limelight as much as possible right after her last movie “The Towering Inferno.”
