Arnel Pineda: Also Subject of National Anthem Issue?
Filipinos all over the world are now rejoicing for Manny Pacquaio’s triumph over Joshua Clottey as the boxing superstar has once again proven that he is one of the ‘greatest boxer’ in the world today.
However…
Lots of the Filipino people too are also ‘intrigued’ with what happened yesterday due to the following reasons:
1. The Pacquaio vs Clottey fight was not worth it. People think that the boxing match was one of the most boring boxing fights seen for Manny Pacquiao.
2. Then, rumor has it that, Arnel Pineda seemed uncompassionate while he is singing ‘Lupang Hinirang’. Apparently, some people are also raising an eyebrow because they perceived that he sung the Philippine National Anthem a la Martin Nievera!
According to Section 37 of Republic Act (RA) 8491, the rendition of the national anthem, whether played or sung, shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe.
Section 20 of the law also states: “The rendition of the flag ceremony in official or civic gatherings shall be simple and dignified and shall include the playing or singing of the anthem in its original Filipino lyrics and march tempo.”
RA 8491 prescribes that any person who will violate its provisions may be punished by a fine of at least P20,000 or imprisonment of not more than one year.
As for me, I find his performance okay enough but I also somewhat agree with some of the detractors that he had changed the melody of the ‘Lupang Hinirang’ quite a bit, most specially during the last few lines.
But anyway, I still think that it is 100% better than Martin Nievera!

natatawa nga ako kasi nung pagkatapos kumanta ni arnel, tawanan ang mga tao kasi ang unang reaction nila e sigurado daw e bubuskahin na naman ng tao yung kumanta ng ating pambansang awit

True gurl! I have a feeling too that Arnel Pineda will be a subject of controversy right after singing the Lupang Hinirang so I am not shocked when the National Historical Institute is demanding for a public apology.
But he did some uncanny version din kasi eh…

Hay wala talaga silang pakialam kahit anong batikos sa maling pagkanta. For them to show off their vocal prowess takes top priority.
Kung lagi nagkakaproblem sa national anthem, dapat sa susunod tape na lang ang padala para plug and play na lang..
the problem with our OPM artist kasi is that, they try to sing the ‘national anthem’ as their own but im also expecting this hiatus right after the boxing match…

pero oo nga, expected na natin na sisitahin sila ng NHI, pero sa dami naman ng kumanta ng di ayon sa tamang paraan, wala pa rin silang pinaparusahan. e mga performers to e, so siempre gusto nila ma showcase ang talent nila so may mga high notes, high notes dapat kahit di kailangan.
at yung laban ni pacquiao, nakatulogan ko tlaga, pramis!

di din ako natuwa sa paglayo ni Arnel sa original melody ng kanta. Yung speed/time-measure forgivable pa, pero yung ibahin mo melody di na yung nakakapagbigay galang sa pambansang awit.
Si Rosie O’Donnell nagkaroon din ng ganyang batikos dahil kinanta nya yung “Star Spangled Banner” nuon (sometime in the 90′s) ng sablay sa melody.
