6.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Solomon Islands
A powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake has just struck off the Solomon Islands in the western Pacific according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
No damages or tsunami alerts have been issued at this point.
According to USGS, the strong earthquake struck at a depth of about 37 miles or 60 kilometers. The epicenter was about 130 miles southeast of the capital, Honiara, in the Pacific Ocean.
The country is now under alert for anything that might happen after today’s quake but Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says a destructive wave is not expected.
