Venus Raj: Did the answer cost her the crown?
The Miss Universe 2010 beauty pageant has already ended with Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete as the winner. But, Miss Philippines 2010 Venus Raj, the 4th runner-up of the pageant and a heavy favorite contestant to win from the beginning cannot just get away from the minds of the pageant viewers and netizens around the world.
Why? A lot of them believed that she was a runaway winner from the start so many of them though that her answer has cost her the crown.
Below is the full transcript of her question and answer portion with the selected celebrity judge.
William Baldwin: What is the biggest mistake that you’ve ever made in your life and what did you do to make it right?
Venus Raj: In my 22 years of existence there is nothing major major problem I’ve done because I’m confident in myself and my family. Thank you for being here…. …Thank you…Thank you very much.
So, what do you think?
Did the crown lost by a whisker because of the answer that she has given above?
If so, then I would suggest that the future Misses Philippines should be given an interpreter to express their answer better like what the winner did last night.
Cheers,

i guess it did cost her the crown. her question was the easiest of the 5 and she wasnt able to express herself well. still, I am very very proud of her !

I agree that we should stop requiring our contestants to express themselves in English. Why can’t we use our national language? This will also open wider the field in Binibining Pilipinas pageants, i.e., those who are afraid their English is not up to par would be encouraged to join the beauty contest, because being fluent in English is not an indication of intelligence.
Having endured public controversy on account of her late-registered Birth Certificate and then bravely overcoming it to recover her beauty crown from BPCI in time, MVRaj could have answered WBaldwin’s question better by conveying thus:
“I may have committed a big mistake in omitting the inelegance of my complicated origins when I competed for the Binibing Pilipinas crown. I righted that mistake by personally declaring a sad fact about my humble international beginnings. Happily, doing the right thing when it became due worked things out wonderfully and so, thank you so much to my family for all the love, for here I am tonight with confidence and audacity of hope to try to win as Miss Universe 2010!”
Exotic and regal Miss Philippines was No.3 in swimsuit and No. 5 in gown (same averaged rank with Miss Australia), so would she have made a different result had she cited her known imperfection? Still, making it to the Top 5 is already a big international honor by itself, so… CONGRATULATIONS, MISS RAJ!
Should Ms. Raj have this answer during the competition, for sure she had won the crown.. But let’s also take into consideration the pressure that Ms. Rad had at that point of time..
Having an Interpreter is not a bad idea, i guess.
I think so.. her answer had so much weight to the result of the pageant.. but whatever, it’s a major major accomplishment for venus raj..
