‘Lion King’ Star Shannon Tavarez Loses Battle With Leukemia

Shannon Tavarez, the young Broadway singer whose fight against acute myeloid leukemia (AML) drew the attention of Alicia Keys, 50 cents and Rihanna has died Monday afternoon (November 1, 2010) at the age of 11.

The talented girl from New York who played young Nala in the ‘The Lion King’ on Broadway for seven months before she was diagnosed with AML has lost her fight against the disease after an umbilical cord blood treatment in August last year failed to save her life.

Rest in peace Shannon – you will be missed.
