Philippines’ Comedy King Dolphy Dead at 83
Iconic Filipino actor-comedian Dolphy (born Rodolfo Vera Quizon) passed away Tuesday evening (July 10, 2012) at the Makati Medical Center due to multiple organ failure. He died a few days before he celebrates his 84th birthday on July 25. The news was also confirmed by actress Zsa Zsa Padilla, Dolphy’s common-law-wife of 20 years.
Dolphy was regarded as the Philippines’ “King of Comedy” for his comedic talent embodied by his long roster of works on stage, radio, television and movies. He also starred in more than 200 films in his 66-year career and has won best acting trophies from FAMAS, PMPC Star Awards, Metro Manila Film Festival and various award giving bodies.
