President-elect Benigno Simeon ‘Noynoy’ Cojuangco Aquino III took his oath today as the 15th President of the Republic of the Philippines. As mandated by the 1987 Constitution, Aquino sworn by high noon before Supreme Court Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales at the historic Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

The special event was attended by many Filipinos and foreign dignitaries from all over the globe. Aquino’s inauguration also marks the first peaceful transfer of power since 1998, when President Joseph Estrada was elected as the 13th Philippine President with a landslide victory.

A video and a copy of President Noynoy Aquino’s Inaugural Speech is published in full below:

His Excellency Jose Ramos Horta, Former President Fidel V. Ramos, Former President Joseph Estrada, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and members of the Senate, House Speaker Prospero Nograles and members of the House, justices of the Supreme Court, members of the foreign delegations,Your Excellencies of thediplomatic corps, fellow colleagues in government, aking mga kababayan.

Sigaw natin noong kampanya: “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap.”

• dekalidad na edukasyon, kabilang ang edukasyong bokasyonal para makapaghanap ng marangal na trabaho ang hindi makapag-kolehiyo;
• serbisyong pangkalusugan, tulad ng Philhealth para sa lahat sa loob ng tatlong taon;

We will cut red tape dramatically and implement stable economicpolicies. We will level the playing field for investors and makegovernment an enabler, not a hindrance, to business.

To those who are talking about reconciliation, if they mean that they would like us to simply forget about the wrongs that they have committed in the past, we have this to say: there can be no reconciliation without justice. Secretary de Lima, you have your marching orders. Begin the process of providing true and complete justice for all.

My government will be sincere in dealing with all the peoples of Mindanao. We are committed to a peaceful and just settlement of conflicts, inclusive of the interests of all – may they be Lumads, Bangsamoro or Christian.

We shalI defeat the enemy by wielding the tools of justice, social reform, and equitable governance leading to a better life.

To our friends and neighbors around the world, we are ready to take our place as a reliable member of the community of nations, a nation serious about its commitments and which harmonizes its national interests with its international responsibilities.

We will be a predictable and consistent place for investment, a nation where everyone will say, “it all works.”

Walang lamangan, walang padrino at walang pagnanakaw. Walang wang-wang, walang counterflow, walang tong. Panahon na upang tayo ay muling magkawang-gawa.

Nandito tayo ngayon dahil sama-sama tayong nanindigan at nagtiwala na may pag-asa.

The people who are behind us dared to dream. Today, the dream starts to become a reality.

We will design and implement an interaction and feedback mechanism that can effectively respond to the people’s needs and aspirations.

My parents sought nothing less and died for nothing less than democracy, peace and prosperity. I am blessed by this legacy. I shall carry the torch forward.

In a sudden turn of events, the ruling party Lakas-Kampi-CMD has anointed Defense Secretary Gilbert ‘Gibo’ Teodoro over Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando last Wednesday, September 16. Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita also announced that the administration party selected Local Government Ronaldo Puno as their vice-presidential bet for the coming May 2010 election. The selection process was made by its 65-member national executive committee wherein Teodoro got a landslide vote of 42 against Fernando. The MMDA chairman only got 5 votes.

Now, people like me are wondering why the ruling party picked this guy over the ‘popular’ Fernando. Listed below are some interesting information about this presidential aspirant:

Gilberto Eduardo Gerardo ‘Gilbert’ ‘Gibo’ Cojuangco Teodoro Jr. is the current Secretary of National Defense of the Philippines. He assumed the position since August 2007. He was also a former member of the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2007 representing the first district of Tarlac province.

Teodoro spent his primary and secondary school years in Xavier School and completed his bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the De La Salle University in 1984. He finished his law studies at the University of the Philippines in 1989 and topped the Philippine Bar Examinations in the same year. Then, right after he worked as a lawyer in the EP Mendoza EP Mendoza Law Firm for seven years, Gibo went to the Harvard Law School for his Master of Laws and completed the course in 1997. He was also admitted to the State Bar of New York during the same year.

Teodoro is no stranger to politics as he was a member of a famous political clan in the Philippines. He is the only child of the former Social Security Administrator Gilberto Teodoro Sr. and former Batasang Pambansa member Mercedes Cojuangco-Teodoro. Interestingly, Gibo and Noynoy Aquino are relatives as Gibo’s mom Mercedes and former President Corazon ‘Cory’ Cojuangco Aquino were first cousins. Gibo also seems to be favored in the political arena as he belongs to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s trusted inner circle and have a strong political support from his very wealthy uncle “former presidential aspirant” Eduardo ‘Danding’ Cojuangco Jr., chairman of San Miguel Corporation and was a close advisor of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

But personally, I have a lot of questions on why he was picked over Bayani Fernando:

I find the selection a surprise as Teodoro was never a frontrunner in the SWS survey even before Noynoy declared his presidential bid. As far as ‘winnability’ is concern, the chances are nil. So why him over Bayani?

I am not a Bayani Fernando supporter but Fernando is qualified too and more popular than Teodoro since the beginning of the selection. In fact, only a few from the so-called masa literally know this guy and when I say a few, maybe we are talking about the .2 percent of the Filipino people. Please do the math.

And lastly, people would agree that Noynoy and Gibo have the same excellent pedigree but the similarity ends there. Why? Gibo will always be associated with the Arroyo government and has this inclination to continue the Arroyo’s legacy. So, in a nutshell, Arroyo will still be a boss to him.

Hmmm, with all the questions I raised above, I can only say that:

I want to hear him sincerely talking about his agenda on the current situation of the Philippines. Like, on how he will deal with the poverty rate, unemployment and the rampant corruption in the government. By then, I can truly agree with the press release that he has a more substance and heart to win than Noynoy.

To be honest, mas marami pa kasi siyang dapat patunayan because the bottomline of being a President is to serve the people of the Philippines and not just the few “yan kasi ang nakikita kong wala sa aura” ni Gibo.

Just my two cents here.

Responding to the calls from various sectors for him to run for presidency, Senator Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III officially announced today his decision to run for President in 2010 exactly 40 days after the death of his mother. The announcement happened at the historic Kalayaan Hall in Club Filipino, San Juan City, this morning.

Interestingly, the historical venue was also the same place where his mother former President Corazon Aquino took her oath last February 25, 1986.

The 49 year-old son of Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. and former President Corazon Aquino will be the standard bearer of the Liberal Party (LP) this coming 2010 elections. In his speech, Noynoy said that:

Aquino also declared that he has chosen Senator and LP President Manuel “Mar” Roxas II as his running mate. However, Aquino is still awaiting for Roxas reply to accept the offer or not.

An estimated 200 supporters attended the event. Aquino’s relatives, siblings and his girlfriend, Valenzuela Councilor Shalani ‘Lani’ Soledad, were also in attendance.

Personally, I became teary eyed while watching the announcement on television as Noynoy Aquino has given me a glimmer of hope to stay here in our country. Best of luck to you Noynoy and Mar! I am hoping for the best.

The Yuletide season has kept me so busy but you can’t take away the blogger in me! So, my unpredictable self happened to stumble upon some interesting political blogs that may keep you enthusiastic too when you suddenly become too lazy to blog in some occasions. Go, check them out and let your opinions be counted there like I do.

Ladies and gentlemen, listed below is my first ever bloggery buzz for 2009!

1. Mr. Jun Lozada
The man may be out of the news tube but he is certainly active in the blogosphere. Check out his musings on what’s happening around the Philippines at http://jlozada.com. Unfortunately, Jun only have 14 posts under his belt but each and every blogs are worth reading.

2. Senator Richard Gordon
Honestly, I am still not sure if this is really him but ‘The Richard Gordon’s Blog’ looks like a compilation of his news and articles. Hosted at blogger/blogspot, http://richardgordon.blogspot.com is the most comprehensive information about Mr. Gordon so far aside from Wikipedia.

3. Manuel L. Quezon III
Besides his resume, personal photos and family history – MLQ’s webby has a blog wherein you can leave your comments freely. However, Manolo’s blog update was last October 24, 2008 so I guess this man is quite busy nowadays. Nevertheless, you can also check it out to know more about his grandpa and their political clan at http://www.quezon.ph.

4. Senator Chiz Escudero
Senator Chiz’s blog is not like Jun Lozada or Manuel L. Quezon III as you can’t leave a comment on his blog section. However, he has an e-forum wherein you can meet Team Chiz. Yep, you can ask this Team Chiz in the forum. It’s also interesting that Chiz’s entire blog entries are all written in Tagalog. Kaya talagang masang – masa talaga ang feel.

5. Senator Mar Roxas
From my perspective, Senator Mar’s blog is laid back and quite relaxed. However, just like Manolo’s blog, Senator Mar’s blog was last updated in October 2008 so I am not sure on when he’ll blog again. But he’s got a twitter that gives update from time to time so if you are a fan – you may want to add him up at http://twitter.com/misterpalengke.

6. Senator Panfilo Lacson
Senator Ping Lacson’s blog is free hosted http://pinglacson.blogspot.com. The blog is quite similar to Richard Gordon since the articles written are comprised of Ping’s speeches, news and articles. You can also visit his main webby at http://www.pinglacson.com.ph that is linked to the blog.

So there you have it folks! Please drop by at these political sites and see for yourself! Please note that I am not anyway connected with these blogs huh? I’m just a reader and a commenter just like you that bloghops everytime. Cheers everyone!

Hillary Clinton will be leaving her New York senate seat when she joins Obama’s National Security Team in January 20, 2009. Two famous ladies are now considering in replacing her as a New York Senator:

1. Caroline Kennedy
The only daughter and the only surviving child of the 35th President of the United States John F. Kennedy and fashion icon Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Caroline Kennedy’s intention to replace Hillary Clinton seems to be not a surprise the rest of the Americans since she is no stranger to politics due to her ‘political bloodline’. Her name also happens to ring a bell in all corners of the world as she is the erstwhile princess of the ‘White House Camelot’ and a member of a political family closest to royalty.

2. Fran Drescher
Fran is widely known for her role as ‘The Nanny’ in a sitcom with the same title. A certified New Yorker, she used her popularity as an actress to launch the Cancer Schmancer Movement, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensure that all women’s cancers be diagnosed while in the most curable stage. Her political aspirations is a bit of a surprise but she recently quoted that she feels that she can be a good senator because she represents every woman and consummate every New Yorker.

So who do you think will take the seat? Will it be Fran or Caroline?
